Local Area
Information
If you are
visiting the area, here are some of our local attractions:
The village
of Assington on the edge of the Essex/Suffolk border. Colchester is the oldest
recorded town in England and has a wealth of history for you to explore,
including the Norman Castle build on the foundations of the Roman temple
of Claudius. All the larger department stores can be found in Colchester.
Along with one of the finest educational Zoo's in the country. A 30minute drive
east will take you to the coast line including Harwich which is a direct link to
Holland. Our local famous artist "John Constable " painter of the " Haywain" can
be found at Dedham
and surrounding villages.
The
flourishing town of Ipswich which is 25 minutes way and also boasts a good
selection of department stores and out of town retail parks. Famous in history
for it's wool trade exports to Europe, thanks to the River Orwell. Which now
sports the Orwell Bridge and again the beautiful Suffolk coast line with shingle beaches takes in some of the best views in the country.
The
market town of Sudbury is the birth place of another famous artist Thomas
Gainsborough. Sudbury is a picturesque traditional Suffolk
town with a warm Suffolk friendliness. On the outskirts of Sudbury is Kentwell
Hall at Long Melford, a beautiful Tudor mansion.
A little further away
Bury. St
Edmunds a slightly large market town with it's own cathedral and a history
connected to the wool trade as many of the small towns in the area.
